Okayama University has been appointed to implement the "Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan (ASEAN Regional Office)" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan since 2024, building on the successful implementation and achievements of the previous “Study in Japan Coordinator Project (Myanmar)” (2014 - 2018) and “Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN” (2019 - 2023)." In this project, we aim to increase the number of international students from ASEAN to over 100,000 (double the number in 2023) in five years and contribute to the goal of hosting 380,000 international students (excluding high school students) by 2033, as proposed by the Council for the Creation of Future Education in the J-MIRAI (Japan-Mobility and Internationalization: Re-engaging and Accelerating Initiative for future generations).

As of September 2026, we have established ten offices across the ASEAN region: Jakarta, Surabaya and University of Indonesia (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Yangon and Mandalay (Myanmar), Bangkok (Thailand), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Vientiane (Laos) and Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam). These offices serve as hubs for recruiting outstanding students from ASEAN countries.

　With the knowledge and experience gained from the previous projects as well as the resources of the Consortium of Six National Universities in Japan (SixERS) and other relevant organizations, we will continue to actively support ASEAN students and teachers who wish to study in Japan by providing advice and organizing various fairs and seminars.
